Qormi Delegation visits Feyzin, France
Following last year’s successful visit by a delegation from Feyzin, France for the Good Friday and Easter season, a Qormi delegation visited Feyzin between 3 to 6 June 2010. The main aim of this visit was to strengthen this relationship between the two localities which dates back to 2004.
Feyzin is situated in the Rhone Department in Eastern France. It forms part of the Grand Lyon, which is only around 7 kilometers away. Feyzin is an industrial city with a population of nearly 10,000 people. As to the social and cultural aspects, Feyzin includes a good number of voluntary organizations such as: sports complex, school of music, theatre, school of art and much more. For this reason, the Qormi delegation was composed of 13 persons coming from various local NGOs including the Mayor Jesmond Aquilina and Councillor Bjorn Azzopardi.
The delegation was accommodated in French families which offered a wonderful opportunity to get to know our counterparts well and to interact into French lifestyle. Despite staying for only 4 days, the French prepared a very intense but interesting programme.
The programme was mainly focused on Feyzin. In fact, the Qormi delegation paid short visits to l’Epicerie Moderne theatre, the school of music and art, the sports complex, local bibliotheca and also to the Local Administration Offices, which astonishingly enough, includes 27 local counsellors, 45 people directly and around another 250 people indirectly employed with the administration. The programme also included both French and Maltese intercultural evenings, with local music, presentations and cuisine. On Sunday, the hosts together with the local parish organized a bilingual mass, which was highlighted by the participation of the local children.
The programme also included cultural visits in the historical city of Vienne and also to the main city of Lyon, where the Qormi Delegation attended the Fete du Consulaires (Consuls’ Feast) and had the opportunity to meet the French Consul for Malta and the Maltese Ambassador for France HE Mr. Mark Miggiani.
